Several new thematic reports and articles based on PIAAC Cycle 2 have now been published. PIAAC examines adults’ skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy and problem solving.

In 2026, the Nordic-Baltic PIAAC Network will continue its work on strengthening the evidence base for adult learning and skills policies in the region. Two key activities are planned for the coming year: the publication of a new Nordic-Baltic thematic PIAAC report and the organisation of a Nordic-Baltic PIAAC Conference in Finland.

The Nordic population is ageing faster than ever before. By 2045, nearly all Nordic municipalities are expected to have an ageing population, placing increasing pressure on welfare systems and public services. These are among the key findings of State of the Nordic Region 2026.

For the third consecutive year, the number of applications to Nordplus has increased. When the application period closed on 2 February, 634 applications had been received.

NLL’s Network for Worklife Learning will focus on worklife learning in 2025-2027. The network will share experiences and knowledge and will follow a project in which the Learning Circle Model is implemented at five public-sector workplaces in health and care services in the Nordic countries. The project will be followed by researchers.

Successful digital integration is key to ensuring equal participation in the Nordic region. Through to 2027, NLL aims to strengthen digital inclusion – particularly for immigrants – by building cross-sectoral cooperation, identifying strucal barriers, engaging policy makers through dialogue and sharing, adapting and upscaling promising practices that enhance digital participation.

Helsinki, October 22nd — The Nordic Network for Lifelong Learning (NLL) convened a dynamic stakeholder hearing to address one of the region’s most pressing challenges: digital integration. With 26 participants from across sectors, the event focused on bridging the gap between structural barriers and practical solutions with the goal of shaping NLL’s strategy for 2025–2027.

That question was at the heart of the workshop “Building civil preparedness through lifelong learning – a guide to resilience”, hosted by the Nordic Network for Lifelong Learning (NLL) as part of the conference Media Literacy and Democracy Education for Societal Resilience, held at Maijansali Hall, Helsinki Central Library Oodi.
